Electronic Health Record (EHR) Trainer

Position Summary

Deep Mile provides training support to Department of Defense (DOD) Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) to enhance adoption of MHS GENESIS, the new Electronic Health Record (EHR) for Military Health System (MHS), to improve patient safety, improve health care quality, and drive standardization for MHS beneficiaries. This position will provide MHS GENESIS product training and implementation support services to MTFs within their region/market as well as MTFs outside their region/market that need coverage. Clinical Functions Advisors are required to get certified in at least three (3) MHS GENESIS tracks to be able to effectively train end users on EHR functions and workflows. Position required to report to client site daily. Primary responsibilities include delivering instructor led training as indicated in the provided facilitator guides, to include but not limited to support related to quick reference guides and DOD approved workflows; completing regular rounding and over the shoulder support to include checking in with clinics on a daily basis or as appropriate to the MTF; observing clinic workflows and providing change management support as indicated; and delivering instructional and/or workflow support and training events as indicated by observed and/or documented training trends.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for training physicians, clinical staff, and support staff at MTFs on MHS GENESIS functions and workflows.
  • Deliver workflow-based, role-based, and process-based EHR training using classroom, Over-the-Shoulder (OTS), web-based/virtual classroom, eLearning, and hands-on training methods.
  • Assist with developing, reviewing, identifying gaps, and updating training materials (e.g., facilitator guides, tips sheets, workflow guides, end user training agendas, competency assessments, training videos, etc.) related to EHR functionality and/or workflows.
  • Prepare training reports, collect course evaluation feedback, and input training data in the training management repository.
  • Work with site leadership to identify and train super users/peer experts and clinical leaders to create a knowledgeable staff familiar with the MTF processes/requirements.
  • Successfully obtain and maintain certification in at least three (3) MHS GENESIS tracks based on the designated MTF/region/market training needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at MTFs to improve and expand end user adoption of new and existing MHS GENESIS workflows based on specific user roles and patient care processes.
  • Provide training and change management support to end users on updates and changes to EHR functions and/or workflows.
  • Provide EHR workflow adoption support to end users in accordance with position-specific clinical and business workflows.
  • Participate in all meetings and training events associated with system changes/updates and ensure complete understanding of impact and functionality. Provide training to end users impacted by changes/updates locally and across the enterprise as directed.
  • Provide training and implementation support to MTFs within the designated region/market as well as MTFs outside the designated region/market that need coverage. Trainers assigned to regions that are in sustainment may be required to support other region(s) deployment activities.
  • Provide post go-live optimization and sustainment support by establishing training plans for train-the-trainer training, super user training, and end user training activities.
  • Assist end users in troubleshooting issues, identifying training opportunities, and submitting trouble tickets via MHS Service Help Desk as appropriate.
  • Attend and/or conduct required meetings, conference calls, and briefings as directed by the Government Site Lead and Project Management Team to share knowledge, provide updates, and address questions and/or concerns.
  • Maintain strong clinical knowledge of healthcare trends, policy, regulatory, and compliance issues.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training programs and use relevant evaluation data to revise and/or recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods.
  • Assist peers in providing training coverage and responding to end user queries.
  • Assist with onboarding other trainers on-site and within the region/market and across the enterprise as directed.
  • Document end user issues and training support, reporting as directed to project management and government leadership teams.
  • Document lessons learned following training events and site visits to include observations, post training event surveys, and client feedback.
  • Actively participate in training forums and provide support to peers as required.
  • Perform other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience providing Clinical Information Systems (CIS) workflow support
  • Clinical Informatics or Clinical / Healthcare related degree preferred
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Registered Nurse (RN) / Medical Assistant (MA) or similar healthcare certification preferred
  • Preferred experience with the Cerner or other EHR modules (Acute, Ambulatory, Ancillary, Dental, Emergency Department, Laboratory, Patient Accounting, Maternity, Radiology / Pharmacy, Revenue Cycle, Surgery / Anesthesia)
  • Preferred experience supporting the Military Health System (MHS)
  • Preferred experience with training medical personnel on clinical information systems (CIS)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse medical community
  • US Citizenship Required – Candidate will need to obtain a DoD Public Trust Clearance
  • Required to travel to local or other non-local locations
